The school

The Cercle Lémanique d’Etudes Musicales was founded in 1982 by Edith Fischer, Marie-José Chardonnens, and Elisabeth Pasche in Lutry. Today, the school is organized as a non-profit association, managed by a committee composed of five members, an administrative and musical director, and five deans.

The school is a member of the AVCEM (Association Vaudoise des Conservatoires et Ecoles de Musique) and the ASEM (Association Suisse des Ecoles de Musique).
The CLEM teaches around 300 students, who attend classes in the towns of Lutry, Corsy-sur-Lutry, La Croix-sur-Lutry, Paudex, and Grandvaux.

The program begins at age four with group classes in musical initiation using the Edgar Willems method. Students then choose an instrument, which they study in individual lessons. The school also offers violin, viola, and cello lessons using the Suzuki method, which is suitable for very young children as young as four.

All students take an annual exam in their instrument and music theory, which allows the school to monitor each student's progress. Auditions are held regularly to give students the opportunity to perform in public once or several times a year. The program of study culminates in a non-professional certificate organized by AVCEM.
