As a urologist, I mainly deal with prostate conditions, tumors, and infections of the urinary and reproductive organs, as well as taboo topics such as incontinence and impotence. People often experience fear, shame, and inhibitions in this area. This is understandable, but unnecessary. Confidential and discreet discussions and consultations are particularly important, and I am happy to take the time for them.

In addition to the usual therapy options and operations, I also offer the following range of modern treatment options:

• Botox (botulinum toxin)

Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®) is a powdered medication that can be injected in liquid form on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia in my practice directly into the bladder muscle using an endoscope. The treatment takes only a few minutes. The effect itself sets in a few days later and results in improved bladder capacity for larger amounts of urine, reduced urinary urgency at longer intervals, and usually complete continence.

Botox treatment is just as successful for symptoms of an overactive bladder in men and women as it is for neurogenic bladders, which are dysfunctional due to an underlying neurological condition. A significant advantage is that the therapeutic effect occurs directly at the point of communication between the nerve and bladder muscle cells, thereby reducing or eliminating the need to take medication in tablet form and its side effects.
