Gestalt Therapy is a humanistic and existential psychotherapy method centered on the person, developed by Frederick Perls, a German psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, in collaboration with Ralph Hefferline and Paul Goodman. Their reference work, Gestalt Therapy, was published in the United States in 1951.
Gestalt comes from the German verb gestalten, which means to shape. Gestalt therapy sheds light on the ways and forms in which we connect with others or avoid such contact. It focuses on what is happening here and now in the relationship between the therapist and their client. It reveals the blockages, fears, and repetitive behaviors that cause us suffering and prevent us from moving forward.
Gestalt therapy allows us to bring movement back into our lives, to relearn how to listen to our needs and desires in order to develop better and experience new ways of being.
Who is Gestalt therapy for?
-You are experiencing conflict, violence, stress, or anxiety with your spouse, child, or teenager.
-You are looking for support and guidance following a bereavement, illness, or separation.
-You are suffering from malaise; you feel irritable, depressed, anxious. You have lost your self-confidence.
-Your relationship is in trouble; arguments and misunderstandings are driving you apart, and communication is difficult.
-You want to broaden your perspective on yourself, develop new strengths, and act differently.
How does a session work?
-Ilook with you at the relationship you have with others (spouse, family, friends) and together we observe what is happening in the present moment on a mental, physical, and emotional level.
-I accompany what is said and experienced during the session and in terms of physical, emotional, and bodily sensations with respect, involvement, and kindness.
-This direct contact between you and me creates a climate of trust that allows you to explore new paths and try out new solutions.
-I offer you a space for listening and exchange in complete confidentiality.
