Born from the partnership between Andres Goetz, Simon Monnier, and David Pecoraro, all three EPF graduates and SIA members, al30 is a Lausanne-based architectural firm founded in 2006 in their premises on Rue de l'Ale. The three friends, who each had their own structure but shared common premises, decided to join forces to form a team with broader skills.
Success came quickly, with a first prize won in 2008 for the project "A la croisée des chemins" (At the Crossroads), in collaboration with the landscape architecture firm Hüsler & associés. The competition, initiated by the municipality of Ecublens, involved a complex program of daycare centers, a library, a school cafeteria, and sheltered housing. This success was followed by another in 2009 with the Gollion competition, whose theme was the construction of around 60 homes in a rural setting.
The firm's activities expanded and the team grew. In 2009, the firm moved to Avenue d'Ouchy and had 12 employees. This configuration remains in place today and allows for ideal, human-scale operations. The three founders, a number that encourages discussion and the sharing of ideas, are the core of a close-knit team that does not hesitate to challenge itself with each new project.
In addition to regularly participating in competitions, the office retains a significant number of private and institutional mandates with the stated aim of managing projects from A to Z, integrating design and execution. This approach to construction enriches the design process through the experience gained and creates a bond of trust with the project owners. Other forms of project management are also practiced successfully, either as a general or total contractor, or in partnership with agents for site management. This flexibility has enabled al30 to take on projects of various sizes: housing projects with 70 to 100 apartments, such as Epalinges, Gollion, Borex, and Les Résidences du Lac; urban densification projects, such as Noirmont and Prilly; and conversion projects, such as the Maxibulles daycare center and the La Villanelle condominium in Lausanne. This has enabled the development of themes across several projects, such as the establishment of new residential neighborhoods in village centers in the case of Gollion and Borex, or the densification of plots while preserving existing buildings in the Noirmont and Prilly projects.
al30's expertise covers a broad spectrum, extending to all levels of the project, combining a mastery of user-friendly concept development that respects the history and qualities of the location, the study of execution details, and solid experience in construction and site management.
