Cave Papillon

Our grandparents, Wenger Charly & Hilda, laid the foundation and began acquiring and planting new vineyards in Salgesch in 1940. The wines, produced with great care, were very popular in their restaurant. Fendant was considered an everyday wine, while Dôle was only drunk on Sundays and special occasions.

Our parents, Wenger Martin and Irma, continued the tradition and built a small winery in 1966. Due to lack of space, the current residential building with a modern winery was built in 1980. The focus of production shifted to red wines, which undoubtedly better suits the potential of our wonderful, limestone-rich soils. We now plant white wines, including rare specialties, in the Siders area.

At the beginning of 2000, we took over the management and operation of Cave Papillon in the third generation. Our family still cultivates and works the vineyards, covering a total area of 3 hectares, exclusively by ourselves. The partly steep slopes, terraced with dry stone walls, require a high degree of manual labor, but the advantage is that each vine is tended individually. Tradition paired with innovation and a constant striving for quality show us the way to the future. We cordially invite you to raise a glass with us to experience the wonder of wine again and again.
