The following treatments are offered at our practice:
Prophylaxis / Dental hygiene
Good oral hygiene is the most important factor in maintaining healthy teeth. Professional teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist can help you achieve good oral hygiene. The condition of your teeth and gums determines how often you should visit the dental hygienist, which is usually between once and several times a year. Daily oral hygiene and regular teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist prevent tooth decay, gum inflammation, and periodontal disease. A healthy oral cavity also protects you from many other diseases! We help you maintain good health!
Cosmetic dentistry
Beautiful teeth are now the norm in our society and reflect social status. With modern materials and technology, aesthetic problems with teeth can be satisfactorily corrected.
Teethwhitening
There are various whitening methods, and teeth whitening is also offered by non-dental personnel. It is important that specially trained medical professionals perform and monitor the whitening of teeth. In our practice, we recommend home whitening, which means that the patient receives two individually manufactured trays from us for the gel (carbamide peroxide) used to whiten the teeth. The patient usually wears the trays at home for one hour per day. After about 2 to 3 weeks, the teeth are significantly lighter. The duration of the whitening effect depends on eating habits (smoking, coffee, and tea), but usually lasts for several years, after which the whitening can be repeated (the trays can be reused!).
Plastic fillings
We have not used amalgam fillings in our practice for over 10 years. Many international scientific studies show that, when properly applied and with good oral hygiene on the part of the patient, plastic fillings last just as long as amalgam fillings! Plastic fillings also meet aesthetic requirements. Plastic fillings are somewhat more difficult to produce, but thanks to special training and our many years of experience, we guarantee optimal results. Here are a few pictures!
As an alternative, we also offer gold and ceramic fillings. Both types of fillings are manufactured in a dental laboratory and are therefore slightly more expensive!
Periodontal treatment
If the inflammation of the gums and the periodontium is advanced and bone has already been lost, we refer to this as periodontal disease. Years ago, complex and painful operations were necessary for treatment, but today the treatment is mainly carried out by dental hygienists. This involves professional cleaning of the root surfaces of the teeth, removing soft plaque and hard tartar and cleaning the gum pockets. This is because one milligram of tartar contains around 100 to 300 million bacteria, which are responsible for the disease. The dental hygienist also instructs the patient on how to maintain clean conditions and prevent the disease from progressing through oral hygiene tailored to their situation. If the inflammation cannot be controlled with these treatment methods, antibiotics or surgery are necessary!
Root canal treatment
If the nerve in the tooth is inflamed and causing severe pain, root canal treatment is indicated. This involves drilling a hole in the tooth and removing the nerve. If bacteria are present, a medication is applied to kill the bacteria and the patient waits a few days or weeks. The nerve canal is then sealed with a substance. The "dead" tooth is usually treated with a filling, a build-up, and/or a crown, allowing it to function for the rest of its life.
Prosthetics
We offer all prosthetic treatment methods, including crowns, bridges, veneers, partial and full dentures.
Surgery
In most cases, we can perform the surgical removal of wisdom teeth and root remnants ourselves in our practice. However, if we believe that the case exceeds our limits of competence, we refer the patient to the practice for implantology and dental surgery of Dr. Harald Schiel, Sempacherstrasse 43, 4053 Basel.
Implants
An implant is an artificial replacement for a lost tooth. The root is replaced with a metal root made of titanium, onto which an abutment is screwed and the crown cemented. The surgical part is performed by Dr. Harald Schiel at the practice for implantology and dental surgery, Sempacherstrasse 43, 4053 Basel. We manufacture the abutment and the crown.
Anxious patients
Many patients are very afraid of the dentist, of treatment, and of pain. As a result, they avoid going to the dentist for a long time and wait until they are in severe pain. This does not have to be the case. You are in good hands at our practice. We are very empathetic, have a wealth of experience, and cater to your wishes.
Children
Because some children are once again suffering from increased tooth decay, regular dental check-ups are very important and recommended.
